Are You Just Surviving?
May has arrived which means the end of the school year is approaching for many. To say this has been one of the most challenging school years would be an understatement. Traditionally this time of year, I speak to families who have been struggling and feeling lost or overwhelmed. Many families are just hoping to survive the remainder of the school year and push it out of their mind until September. Some families continue to experience a cyclical pattern each year.
Then September arrives and parents are optimistic this will be a better or different year for their child. The year begins promising and you believe this is it and things are going to start clicking for your child. Then as predicted the concerns arise like a load of bricks falling from the sky. You instinctively try to trust the teacher and the plan at school but nothing changes.
What do we do as parents? Who do you ask for help? How do you understand the day to day needs of your child? I encourage you to stop this rollercoaster and seek help. The cycle of hoping things will get better is not a strategy for any stakeholder let alone your child.
