“You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know”

“You don’t know what you don’t know,” is a concept I’ve shared with parents all throughout my career when it comes to understanding their child’s school experience.  It can be very overwhelming for many, especially when your child is struggling.  We’d like to believe that we can just trust that our schools and districts have the best interest of our children in mind, however, it’s not always the case.  I’ve seen firsthand children being passed from grade to grade, their struggle growing greater each year.

What happens when you truly believe that more needs to be done for your child, but the plea is falling on deaf ears?  Even worse, you are told that your child doesn’t qualify for extra services.  These situations fill me with angst as every child should have the opportunity for services that meet their needs, regardless of whether they “qualify.”  I’ve heard all too often “your child isn’t failing, so there is not a need for services.”  This is where I come in.

I’m here to help and offer a variety of support options.  Whether you need a sounding board to share your experiences or assistance in communicating with the school, I work with you to develop an individualized plan for you and your child.  The initial consultation is always free, so don’t be afraid to take that leap!
